Estuarine Shoreline Mapping Project - Data Download

These digital data are to be used as reference materials only. These data are projected in NC State Plane NAD 83 Feet. The year of the shapefile (e.g.,  2010 Shapefiles) designates the year in which the imagery was captured. Zipped file includes shoreline shapefile, line structure shapefile, polygon structure shapefile, and metadata.

The North Carolina Estuarine Shoreline Mapping Project is a multiyear initiative designed to document existing shoreline types and shoreline structures (docks, piers, bridges, boat ramps, bulkheads and rock revetments) along the North Carolina estuarine coastline. This effort does not result in the production of a complete hydrographic dataset for the coastal/estuarine environment. The final data set generated through the ESMP should not be used as a regulatory line and therefore may not be applicable to litigation entered into by the state or agencies within DENR. While efforts have been made to ensure that these data are accurate and reliable, DCM cannot assume liability for any damages, or misrepresentations, caused by any inaccuracies in the data, or as a result of the data to be used on a particular system. DCM makes no warranty, expressed or implied, nor does the fact of distribution constitute such a warranty. While this shoreline dataset is dependent on aerial imagery taken for the 20 coastal counties, it should be understood that the position of the shoreline might change over time due to natural and other processes or as better maps and more recent imagery become available.
